Teenage Car Crash Statistics

In a study done back in 2013, 2,163 teens between the ages of 15-20 were killed due to a fatal accident and almost double were treated in a hospital setting (Teen Driver Car Accident Stats 2018)
Also according to TDCAS, 75% of teenage car accidents are from three basic mistakes that a lot of young drivers tend to make: Being distracted, driving too fast for the current road conditions, and slow reaction times. Being distracted was a factor in over half of the crashes involving 16-19 year-olds. One of the biggest distractions in the car setting is cellphone usage. 56% of teens talk on the phone while driving a moving vehicle and a reportedly 13% of teens text and drive (General Statistics 2018). Alcohol also plays a decent role in the amount of car accidents that happen with the younger generation drivers. In the last year, 25% of the severe car accidents had to do with drinking while under the influence of alcohol. 5.8% of 16-17 year-olds admitted to drinking and driving, while 15.1% of 18-20 year-olds admitted to it Of the teens who were killed in an alcohol related crash, 28% had a BAC of a .08 or higher (Teen Driver Car Accidents Stats 2018).
